MCA deputy president Dr Chua Soi Lek says the party's Wanita chief Chew Mei Fun has discredited herself by saying that she would resign if he becomes party president.

Chua recalled that when he previously called for an extraordinary general meeting (EGM), Chew had declared in closed-door sessions that she would resign if a motion of no confidence against MCA president Ong Tee Keat was passed and that Chua's MCA membership was reinstated.

The former health minister told reporters today that she had been saying that she would resign all too often to the extent that it had discredited her.

Chua also ventured to say that he should probably not dare to become an MCA president after taking into consideration Chew's strong objection to him.

NONE He also credited Chew, who is deputy women, family and community development minister, as "talented" as she was the only Chinese politician out of seven million Chinese people in the country to have been given a government post despite being defeated with a huge majority.

Describing her appointment as akin to a backdoor listing in the stock exchange, he said "politically this is called morality."

"She can lose and yet can come back. When people in MCA lose, none have a chance to come back, she is the only one. Maybe she has some talent that you and I don't know. What is it? It is better for you to ask her," he said.
