Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the decision whether to close Jalan Tanjung in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya following protests from residents would be known on Monday.

He said the state government would discuss the matter with the two developers involved, Bandar Utama City Corporation Sdn Bhd (BUCC) and D'Jaya Corporation Berhad tomorrow before making the decision.

"I hope the residents will be patient and wait for the decision on Monday," he said after chairing the Selangor Economic Action Council meeting today.

Earlier, Abdul Khalid spent about 20 minutes talking to 20 representatives of the affected residents on the problems they will face if the road is closed. The group was led by Mohamed Shukri Zain.

On Monday, about 100 residents from 19 housing areas in Zone Four, Petaling Jaya staged a roadside protest against the closure of Jalan Tanjung by BUCC.

The protest came after the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and BUCC ignored the residents' petition sent on Nov 10 against the road closure.

They said that if BUCC closed Jalan Tanjung, the residents and other road users would be forced to use an alternative route through Jalan Persiaran Tropicana, Persiaran Damansara Indah and Persiaran Surian to get to Bandar Utama and face traffic congestion.

They also claimed that the increased traffic would also have an impact on the safety of pupils of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Damansara in Jalan Tropicana Utara and Sekolah Kebangsaan Tropicana in Jalan Tropicana Selatan.
