English newspapers

New Straits Times and the Star headlined Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Aziz Nik Mat's decision to order his son-in-law Ariffahmi Abdul Rahman to quit as state investment agency Kelantan Menteri Besar Incorporated (PMBK) chief executive officer (CEO).

The Star also frontpaged Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's self-imposed deadline of seven days to resolve the MCA crisis.

Malay newspapers

Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian also led with Nik Aziz ordering Ariffahmi to resign as PMBK CEO.

Berita Harian also gave prominence to the Kuala Lumpur High Court's decision to dismiss the Election Commission's (EC) application for a stay, compelling the EC to hold a by-election for the Kota Siputeh state seat in Kedah within 60 days.

Tamil newspapers

All three Tamil dailies - Malaysia Nanban, Makkal Osai and Tamil Nesan - reported on the rejection of a stay application for the EC on the Kota Siputeh case.

Makkal Osai also reported on the war of words between Opposition MPs and deputy foreign minister A Kohilan Pillay over the government's stand on the plight of Sri Lankan Tamils.

Editorial

New Straits Times discussed about the recent cholera outbreaks in Terengganu and Sabah.

Utusan Malaysia called for an end to the whole issue of whether or not to allow commmunist leader Chin Peng to return to Malaysia.

Berita Harian urged the government to narrow the divide between national and vernacular schools instead of debating about a "single stream school".

Tamil Nesan urged everyone to be ready for the second wave of the A(H1N1) flu outbreak.

Malaysia Nanban noted that there were two outstanding education issues involving the Indian community which needed urgent government action. The first was the status of the Indian Studies Department in Universiti Malaya and the second was the government's decision to cap SPM subjects to 10, which means students will have to leave out Tamil language and Tamil literature papers.
