PAS leaders today welcomed the resignation of Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat's son-in-law Ariffahmi Abdul Rahman as chief executive officer (CEO) of Kelantan Menteri Besar Corporation (PMBK).

Speaking to reporters in Parliament today, PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub said Nik Aziz made the right move by advising Ariffahmi to resign.

"Nik Aziz made the decision based on a party platform. But this does not mean he has admitted the allegations against his son-in-law, which would only tarnish the party's image," he said.

Salahuddin said this episode should serve as a lesson for all PAS leaders. He also extended his gratitude to Ariffahmi for being willing to relinquish all his posts in the PBNK.

"I feel that Nik Aziz and his son-in-law have shown an attitude that we all can be proud of," he added.

Being investigated by MACC

Yesterday, Nik Aziz, who is also PAS spiritual leader, ordered Ariffahmi to resign from his posts after consulting other leaders from the party.

His son-in-law is currently being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for alleged financial misappropriation.

Meanwhile, PAS parliamentarian Mujahid Yusof Rawa said Ariffahmi's resignation shows that the party’s integrity is top priority.

"We welcome the move... this is a good example. The decision was made to preserve the party's integrity," he added.

Padang Terap PAS MP Nasir Zakaria praised Nik Aziz, saying the spiritual leader made the right move in asking his son-in-law to step down.

"The people and leaders should look at this as an example when it comes to preserving integrity," he said.
