The MCA extraordinary general meeting (EGM) will go on as planned on Nov 28 unless the date for fresh party polls is fixed, said Wanita MCA chief Chew Mei Fun today.

"It's dangerous to cancel the EGM before the exact date for the fresh party polls is set, so the EGM will go on.

"We are aggressively preparing for the EGM. Therefore, I hope all the party's central delegates can attend the EGM," Chew, who is Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister told reporters after launching Amnesty International's briefing paper, "The Gender Trap: Women, Violence and Poverty".

On another matter, Chew urged historian Prof Emeritus Dr Khoo Kay Kim to stop issuing statements that hurt the feelings of the Chinese community.

Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had said that he wanted his ministry to look at and learn from the Chinese-medium schools for their success in teaching Science and Mathematics.

However, Khoo opposed the idea, saying that Chinese-medium schools were only producing "copycats".
