Former Perlis mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin intends to shift his religious lectures to entertainment outlets nationwide.

This follows a prohibition by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais), barring him from giving such lectures in the state, without certification.

"Currently, religious lectures were only carried out at formal ceremonies and at mosques," he said after delivering a motivational talk, in conjunction with the Perlis Radio Televisyen Malaysia Family Day 2009.

NONE Mohd Asri felt that religious lectures should be carried out at entertainment outlets to give awareness to Muslims for better understanding of Islam.

Artists told to convey positive messages

Meanwhile, he proposed that artistes in the country convey positive messages in their singing or shows.

He said, as influential individuals in society, artistes should promote good values to the community.

The family day was officiated by Perlis Broadcasting director Bibah Saad while comedian Saiful Apek hosted a variety of games and events.

Last month, Asri was charged under Section 119 of the Selangor Islamic Administration Enactment for delivering a religious talk without authorisation.
