Umno will launch a mammoth "Umno the People's Champion" campaign next month to win the hearts of Malay voters, said Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said the programme would entail economics, social and educational activities.

The campaign is a transformation programme for Umno to get closer to the people especially at the grassroots' level, he said when opening the third Umno Veteran Council general assembly at Ayer Keroh in Malacca last night.

Muhyiddin, who is also Umno deputy president, urged Umno veterans to join hands in the programme as their undying fighting spirit was still needed.

Meanwhile, he said the preponderance of the opposition in challenging the Malay rights was not only against the spirit of the Federal Constitution but was also sensitive to the Malays.

Present were Malacca Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam and Umno Veteran Council chairperson Zahid Sirat.
