A TV3 broadcast journalist told the Kuala Lumpur High Court that he was not sure whether lawyer Karpal Singh, speaking at a news conference, said he was giving his personal opinion on the law on how the Perak Sultan could resolve the political crisis in the state.

Ing Boon Sing said that from his understanding, the Feb 6 news conference was on the court action by Karpal Singh against the Perak Sultan if the swearing-in of Zambry Abdul Kadir as the Perak menteri besar proceeded.

"Although, I don't understand the explanation on the provisions in the law on the issue, he (Karpal Singh) did mention about legal action against the (Perak) Sultan," he added.

NONE Cross-examined by lawyer Jagdeep Singh Deo ( right ) on the reasons that some important matters were not aired during the TV3 news at 4pm and 8pm on Feb 6, Ing said the news slot for the issue was only for about one minute.

"In one minute, only the important things could be filled and Karpal Singh's statement on wanting to sue the (Perak)Sultan was the most crucial," he added.

However, Ing agreed with Jagdeep Singh that Karpal Singh did say that Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin would be named the plaintiff and Zambry as the defendant in the suit.

He also agreed that was aired on Feb 6, which included Karpal Singh's statement that he had no personal interest in the political crisis in Perak, was not the full content of the news conference.

Ing, who is the ninth prosecution witness, was testifying at the trial of Karpal Singh, 69, on a charge of making a seditious statement against the Sultan of Perak at a news conference at his office at Messrs Karpal Singh & Co in Jalan Pudu Lama between noon and 12.30pm on Feb 6.

Report against instigation

Meanwhile, the secretary of the Perak branch Federation of Peninsular Malay Students Associations (GPMS) Azmil Khusaini Khalid said he lodged a police report against Karpal Singh, PKR adviser Anwar Ibrahim and Nizar on Feb 7 after watching the TV3 news.

Questioned by deputy public prosecutor Noorin Badaruddin, Azmil said the report was lodged as a protest by GPMS against Karpal Singh for questioning the Sultan in consenting Zambry's appointment.

NONE "Karpal (Singh) had not only questioned the powers of the (Perak) Sultan, but also was also trying to instigate the people to go against the (Perak) Sultan and confuse the people," he added.

When asked by Karpal Singh to give the words he used to instigate the people as aired by TV3, Azmil said he could not remember them and that he also did not mention the words in his police report.

Azmil, 41, an Umno branch leader and a teacher at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Simpang Pulai also said he did not know that the Perak Sultan could be named as a defendant in a court action.
