PKR's Syed Husin sworn in as senator
PKR deputy president Dr Syed Husin Ali was sworn in today as a senator for a three-year term before Dewan Negara president Wong Foon Meng in the Dewan Negara.
PKR deputy president Dr Syed Husin Ali was sworn in today as a senator for a three-year term before Dewan Negara president Wong Foon Meng in the Dewan Negara.
Syed Husin, 63, who was nominated by the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, is a founder member of Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram), a human rights NGO.
He has a PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and has been engaged in politics for the last 50 years.
Approached by Bernama after he had taken his oath, Syed Husin said he hoped to share his views on matters which would be beneficial to everyone.
Syed Husin, was leader of the Party Rakyat Malaysia, before his party merged with Keadilan to create PKR.
A Universiti Malaya professor, Syed Husin was arrested in the 70s and spent six years under the Internal Security Act.
