A Saudi Arabian man was arrested at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang when he ran amok after being told to stop smoking in a cafe, newspapers reported today.

The unnamed man asked a guard for his gun and, when this was refused, told the guard to shoot him, before running through a security gate and assaulting another official with a janitor's mop, police said.

He was eventually subdued and is being remanded for seven days for investigation, police spokesperson Mohamad Shukri Dahlan told reporters.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning, although the man's ticket showed he was only due to leave for Saudi Arabia on Sunday, Shukri said.— AFP
