Mohd Shukri Abdull, 49, has been appointed deputy chief commissioner (Operations) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), succeeding Abu Kassim Mohamed who has been promoted as the chief commissioner.

Mohd Shukri, whose appointment took effect on Jan 1, 2010, held the position of MACC investigations director prior to his current position.

NONE After the announcement at the agency's headquarters, Mohd Shukri ( left ) told reporters that he would be focusing on high profile cases as well as those that had gained public interest.

“All this while, I was only looking after investigations. Now, it looks like I have a bigger responsibility because I will be responsible for intelligence.”

Shukri said he would also be wearing two hats for the time being as he would still act as MACC's investigation director until a replacement could be found.

He holds a bachelor's degree in Geography from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and first joined the then Anti-Corruption Agency on Sept 1, 1984 in the agency's Accounts Branch and has had extensive experience in investigation.

He has served as deputy investigations director and as a director in Sabah, Kelantan, Perlis, Kedah as well as investigations unit chief in Penang and the agency's Special Actions Branch investigations unit chief.

Zakaria Jaafar remains as MACC deputy chief commissioner (Prevention).
