A briefing for branch leaders of the PPP, organised by 'sacked' supreme council member T Murugiah, was marred by about 50 supporters who claimed loyalty to PPP president M Kayveas in Petaling Jaya today.

kayveas murugiah ppp The incident happened outside Wisma Peladang (NUPW Hall) at about 2.30pm when Murugiah had just started addressing about 2,100 branch heads from all over the country.

According to Federal Territory PPP chairperson A Chandrakumanan who was among the group of 50, a police report would be made at the nearest police station, although another police report had been lodged with Petaling Jaya police chief R Junaidi Mohamed on the validity of the meeting and for using Barisan Nasional Fan Club to mislead others.

   

"Murugiah should not have organised the meeting, it will confuse the public and tarnish the image of BN, especially in the eyes of the opposition," he said.

'I am not afraid of anybody'

Realising the commotion outside, Murugiah had asked some of his followers to try and defuse the situation but the group refused to budge, causing a verbal argument.

    

The tense situation was later defused by the police and Rela members after about 30 minutes.

Murugiah when met told reporters that he would not be intimidated by any attempts by supporters of Kayveas to overthrow him.

"I am not afraid of anybody who wants to make a police report. Let them make as many police reports, I do not care because the decision of the Malaysian Arbitral Tribunal Establishment had declared that I am the rightful PPP president," he said.

He added that the meeting was held to brief the PPP members of the tribunal's decision on Dec 10 and to discuss ways to increase membership from the current 210,000 to 420,000 before the next general election.
