Jawi assemblyperson Tan Beng Huat has withdrawn his threat to quit DAP and become an independent elected representative.

NONE He also apologised to the Pakatan Rakyat Penang government led by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and DAP.

"I was wrong in threatening to quit my party. Although I issued the threat because I felt responsible to air the grievances of my constituents, I apologise for it. It was not appropriate.

"I would remain as a DAP member to carry out the party agenda for the people in Penang," he added in a statement.  

'My constituents were unhappy'

Last week, the state rep threatened to quit if state authorities remained adamant on imposing car parking fee in the Nibong Tebal parliamentary constituency, which encompasses Jawi.

 

Tan said he felt obliged to speak out on the behalf of residents and businessmen in Nibong Tebal.

"My constituents were unhappy. I brought up the subject to the relevant authorities on many occasions but to no avail. I was left with no choice," he explained.

Tan said he would continue to hold talks with the relevant authorities to explore an effective way to implement the new car parking policy.

 

"I will support the state's efforts to use the extra revenue to upgrade and develop Nibong Tebal for the betterment of its constituents," he added.
