Syed Husin: I'm not quitting
PKR deputy president Syed Husin Ali today said he has not resigned or sent any notice to that effect.
PKR deputy president Syed Husin Ali today said he has not resigned or sent any notice to that effect.
"It is indeed true that I have indicated that I wish to phase out slowly to make way for a younger person to take over.
"Leaders of the party are aware of this but they also know that I have not given any clear-cut time frame," he said in a statement.
Syed Husin was responding to an article in a news portal, which he said had a sensational headline which has led to people making different conclusions.
The veteran politician also claimed that when he was accepted to be senator, during the period when he was in Mecca to perform the haj, "there was an attempt to spin a story that the senatorship was the result of a deal struck so that I resign as deputy president to open the way for someone to succeed me."
"One or two newspapers reported this and even named that person. I am now informed there is an element of libel in the report.
"Thus, I have asked my lawyers to look into the matter," he added.
