Only BN can bring development, Kedah MB tells voters
Kedahans must vote for the ruling Barisan Nasional government because it is the only party that can steer the country to prosperity, said Menteri Besar Syed Razak Syed Zain today.
He said it is not true that any party can govern a country with success and pointed out that BN is the only party in the world that has ruled without interruption for 45 years.
"Every other country changes its government every few years. We may have numerous opposition parties but they are all closing up, some even buried," said Syed Razak.
He said this when addressing some 200 people, mostly students, at the Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) in Pendang — which is gearing up for next Thursday's by-election.
The menteri besar, who later launched a RM1 million activity centre in the school and handed over food hampers and advanced loan of RM1,500 each to 13 students, also criticised the opposition for wanting to topple the government.
"It is all right to topple the government when it oppresses the people. But when the government brings development to the people, they must support it."
Be grateful
Stating that all the money to administer Mara comes from the ruling BN, he urged Mara students and officers to thank the party for building the school.
Mara, too, should also thank the Kedah government for giving it land to build the school, he added.
"If Mara does not want land but wants to build the school in a river or up in the sky, [they should still thank us because] even all those things are owned by us," said the BN leader.
The by-election for the Pendang parliamentary seat was called following the death of its representative, PAS president Fadzil Noor, last month.
The contesting parties and candidates are Umno/BN's Othman Abdul, 51, and PAS' Dr Mohamad Hayati Othman, 45.
Fadzil's death also left a state assembly constituency — Anak Bukit — without its representative.
Voters there will go to the polls on the same day to choose Umno/BN's Zakaria Said, 58, or PAS' Amiruddin Hamzah, 40.
Among those present at the school this afternoon were the parliamentary secretary to the Education Ministry Mahadzir Mohd Khir and MRSM director-general Mohd Mydin Mohd Sheriff.
