The High Court here fixed Feb 8 to hear the suit by a Belgian company, Fitraco NV, against Eye On Malaysia (EOM) Sdn Bhd and MST Ad Suria Sdn Bhd after the companies failed to settle their loan of RM17 million.

Justice Anantham Kasinather set the date in chamber today.

 

eye on malaysia large ferris wheel 040107 Fitraco NV, as the original owner of the ferris wheel, ‘Eye On Malaysia’, filed the suit on Sept 15, 2009, after the two companies failed to pay the amount, which was for the rental and freight of the ferris wheel to Malaysia in 2006.

MST is the company responsible for bringing the observation wheel to Malaysia as part of the attraction for the Visit Malaysia Year 2007.

It was installed at the Taman Tasik Titiwangsa here before being transferred to the Sungai Melaka river mouth on September 2008 and operated a month later.

Giant ferris wheel seized

Since starting its operation in Malacca, the Eye On Malaysia is said to have recorded a revenue of about RM5 million.

On Nov 26 last year, the High Court allowed Fitraco NV to repossess the ferris wheel from EOM.

On the same day, the court also allowed an application by Fitraco NV for an injunction to stop MST from selling the observation wheel to EOM and at the same time allowed Fitraco NV access to the site and take over the management.

The Eye On Malaysia, which became a major tourist attraction in Malacca, was seized on Jan 7, forcing a halt to its operation.
