DAP national chairperson Karpal Singh will lodge police reports in Ipoh tomorrow against two top law enforcement officers.

The veteran parliamentarian will make the reports at the Perak police headquarters against Selangor police chief Khalid Abu Bakar and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) senior officer Raub Ghani, during the lunch break of the DAP national convention.

NONE The report against Khalid is for allegedly issuing an “unlawful threat” to arrest Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng over a sedition report.

Khalid has threatened to arrest Lim for allegedly not cooperating in the police investigation over a remark by the chief minister implying that a DAP political aide was murdered.

“A chief minister is not above the law, but Khalid’s threat to arrest Lim has no basis. Khalid can be liable for a criminal defamation suit,” said Karpal, a two-term Bukit Gelugor MP.

The other Karpal’s police report is against Raub of the Putrajaya investigation branch for lodging a “false report” against Thai pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand.

Raub could be following orders

In his police report on Jan 1, Raub and another MACC officer Hisham Mohd Yusoff, lodged police reports alleging that Dr Pornthip had leaked the second forensic report on the cause of death of Selangor political aide Teoh Beng Hock to Suara Keadilan , the organ of PKR.

However, Suara Keadilan has clarified that its source of information was officers from the Health Ministry.

NONE Yesterday Dr Pornthip ( right ), a vital witness in the Teoh inquest, was cleared by attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail of any wrongdoing in allegedly leaking her second autopsy report.

This was told to coroner Azmil Muntapha Abas at the inquest by lawyer Tan Hock Chuan, who is appearing for the AG's Chamber, in the inquest on Teoh Beng Hock's death.

Karpal, a lawyer by profession, said Suara Keadilan’s disclosure and the AG’s clearance clearly suggested that Raub had lodged a false report.

“Raub could have lodged the report under directives from his superiors, not on his personal capacity.

“It’s time to end this law enforcement agencies and their officers lodging false reports and getting away with it,” he told journalists at his office in George Town today.

Nazri’s pronouncement ‘unconstitutional’

On Khalid’s ( below ) threat against the Penang chief minister, Karpal said Lim had actually given a statement to police officer ASP Fauzi Ahmad Zain last Saturday at his office in Komtar.

NONE However, he said Lim could not give further statement because the police had failed to provide him with a copy of the police report.

Karpal called on the police to give Lim the requested copy of the report.

“I will then advice the chief minister to give another statement,” he said.

Karpal also criticised Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz’s pronouncement to allow Christians in Sabah and Sarawak to use the word ‘Allah’, and not their counterparts in Peninsular.

“Such a pronouncement is unconstitutional and unlawful given that the case is still pending an appeal in court,” he said.

He said as it is, the High Court decision to allow the Catholic publication Herald use the word ‘Allah’ stands as the rule pending the appeal by the Home Ministry.

“This means any state enactments that prohibit the use of word ‘Allah’ by non-Muslims, such as in Selangor , are unconstitutional and unlawful,” said the veteran politician.
