Haiti earthquake victims retired major James Lam and wife Lee Lian Chong arrived at the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) here last night with Air Asia X flight D72009.

The tired couple who were surprised to find pressmen waiting first refused to be interviewed but later gave in.

"I could not picture it as the earthquake happened so fast. It was shocking as I was driving at the time. My first thought was on my wife who was at home."

Lam said the vast destruction in Haiti exposed the people to a host of diseases adding his immediate concern was to leave for Malaysia.

"I'm glad and happy to be back alive. Thats all I can say for now," he said alongside daughter Joanne, son-in-law Xavier Lee and grand daughter Byanca.

The 7 magnitude earthquake on Jan 12 left some 200,000 people dead while another 1.5 million lost their homes.
