The Kelantan state government has rejected a federal government offer to be on a consultative committee for compassionate aid that will be set up soon, said Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

Nik Aziz said he has also not been invited and would rather not allow any state government officials to sit on the committee.

"If they want to pay compassionate money, there is no need to negotiate. I will not take the money.

"I will not go if invited (to be on the committee) and will 100 per cent reject the invitation," he said.

pas information meeting 090110 nik aziz The Pas spiritual leader ( right ) was asked to comment on a statement by deputy finance minister, senator Dr Awang Adek Hussin, yesterday for the state government to appoint a representative for the the compassionate fund.

According to Dr Awang Adek, the purpose for a state representative was to allow for a state representative to be involved in discussions besides providing views on what measures needed to be taken to distribute the compassionate fund.

Meanwhile, Kelantan Umno liaison committee chairman, Mustapa Mohamed reminded the Kelantan state government to set aside political sentiments on the matter of compassionate funds for the benefit and welfare of the people of the state.

He said the Pas leadership should not be confrontational in matters of politics. Actually both sides should not confront each other on the political front for the sake of the people," said Mustapa.
