PKR Youth leaders welcomed former Gerakan Rakyat Anti Korupsi (Gerak) chair Mohd Nazree Mohd Yunus into their fold but insisted that he explain himself for attacking the party on various matters last year.

                        

Yesterday, the anti-graft body chief declared that he is joining PKR because its struggle was in line with his principles in wanting to stamp out corruption in the country.

gerak new leader pc 300508 mohd nazree Expressing surprise that Nazree ( left ) has made "such a big noise" about joining the party, PKR Youth exco member Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said: "The problem is he is making a big deal about it when there are a lot more credible young people joining us."

Although he welcomed Nazree to the party, Nik Nazmi maintained that he has his own concerns and reservations about him.

"He is a new guy and there are lots of questions about him. He should clear the air after attacking the party on many matters," he said when contacted today.

Agreeing with Nik Nazmi, Youth vice chief Khairul Anuar Ahmad Zainudin also hoped that Nazree has realised his past mistakes, adding that it is a moral victory for PKR.

"We managed to convince a person who was very critical of us to join our struggles," he said.

Nazree took over Gerak in May 2008 from ex-PKR Youth chief Ezam Mohd Noor, who left the organisation to join Umno.

During his tenure, Nazree ruffled the feathers of top PKR leaders when he accused them of corruption.

He lodged a complaint with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim last year for allegedly misusing state funds.

Asked whether Nazree might take after Ezam, Khairul pointed out: "After being manipulated by Ezam and Umno, Nazree is repentant now."

PKR supreme council member Saiful Izham Ramli said that Nazree should not be viewed as a threat.

"We take a cautious stance towards all," he said.

Saiful, a former Kedah PKR Youth chief, said Nazree should prove that he is an asset and not another liability to the party.
