A mother's love knows no bounds as she battles hurdle after hurdle to make sure that her youngest daughter gets her dream wedding.

Normah Mohd Noor, 50, had appealed several times to the police and representatives of the Northeast District and Land Office not to demolish a treetop foodstall in Tanjung Bungah, where her daughter's wedding ceremony was to be held.

Preparations for the treetop wedding between Nurul Suraya Aziz and Yusman Zakree Osman, to be held this Saturday from 6pm to 10pm, are well underway and 700 invitations have been sent to relatives in Perak and Kuala Lumpur.

"I hope the state government can give us until after the wedding reception because we have already made the preparations," she told reporters during an operation by the Penang Municipal Council and Northeast District and Land Office to demolish the stall in Penang today.

She said they had forked out RM16,000 to decorate the area and set up several canopies around the stall, known as Do Re Mi Kafe.

Normah's plight had caught the attention of several representatives from the Penang Malay Chamber of Commerce (PMCC) who rushed to the state administrative office requesting that the demolition be postponed.

PMCC vice-president Syed Hassan Syed Ali said he managed to meet the state secretary who ordered the postponement, with only a few huts demolished.

The stall, owned by Johar Ismail, 34, is unique in that four trees were used as its main pillars, and is surrounded by several trees where customers can dine while enjoying a view of the ocean.

The municipal council demolished several huts in the area last week but they were rebuilt by the shop owner.
