The Syrian embassy has called on the authorities to handle the detention of four suspected Syrian terrorists under the Internal Security Act (ISA) according to the appropriate legal process.

It said in a statement issued to Malaysiakini today that the embassy was expecting more details on the arrests.

However, it gave the reassurance about its care and concern for Malaysia’s security.

It also emphasized its continued cooperation with the relevant authorities in combatting international terrorism.

"This comes within the framework of Syria's co-operation with the international move to curb and eliminate terrorism and eradicate its causes," it added.

Meanwhile, on the arrest of an unknown number of Nigerians yesterday, that country's High Commissioner, Peter J E Anegbeh, when asked , said the high commission was unsure whether any of its nationals were detained under the ISA for alleged links with terrorists.

This was because they had not received any notification from the Malaysian Foreign Ministry regarding the arrest.

The Jordanian embassy, however, declined to comment on the matter as the case has been classified as confidential.

Repeated attempts to contact the Saudi Arabia and Yemen embassies to get a response on the matter failed.

The ten terrorism suspects were arrested together with about 50 people last Thursday, while attending an informal religious school in a house at Sungai Cincin, Gombak.

The suspects were also believed to be linked to Nigerian student Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab responsible for the botched Christmas Day plane bombing near Detroit in the US state of Michigan.
