Consumer prices rose 2.1 percent in June from a year earlier, up 1.7 percent over the past six months and 0.1 percent over the previous month, the government announced Wednesday.

Foodstuffs, rent, fuel and transport accounted for 90.4 percent of the overall increase during the period, the Department of Statistics said in a statement.

Transport and communications, which recorded the highest rise, were up 6.2 percent, tobacco and beverages gained 5.1 percent and medical care and health rose 2.5 percent.

Other items which registered an increase were rent which rose 0.7 percent and food which added 0.5 percent. — AFP
