The Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Ministry is taking proactive measures to supply sugar to traders while conducting checks before the Chinese New Year (CNY).
Its Kulim-Bandar Baharu district enforcement division chief Chin Ching Chung said the division had been monitoring business premises in rural and urban areas daily since three weeks ago to ensure adequate supply of sugar and no profiteering from traders.
"The demand in the two districts during the CNY is expected to exceed the usual demand of 20 tonnes a month," he told Bernama.
Traders could call the division's operation room at 04-49 63 700 if they need sugar supply, he added.
The operation room is opened daily until 10pm.
