Burn churches: 'Not so bald' rep clears his name again
Although he has denied calling for churches to be attacked, PKR assemblyperson Shuhaimi Shafiei's mobile phone is still being flooded with SMS about the matter.
Although he has denied calling for churches to be attacked, PKR assemblyperson Shuhaimi Shafiei's mobile phone is still being flooded with text messages about the matter.
This has forced him to hold another press conference at his service centre in Shah Alam this morning to clear his name.
The Sri Muda assemblyperson ( right ) claims to be a victim of mistaken identity and his receding hairline is proof of this.
Shuhaimi found himself in a spot after Malaysiakini published a video of a protest in Shah Alam on Jan 12, where a person was heard shouting 'Bakar Gereja' (burn churches).
The man identified himself as 'Suhaimi Syafie', and the similarity in the names led many to conclude that it was PKR's Shuhaimi.
Mistaken identity
Defending himself, the assemblyperson said: "It is a case of mistaken identity, the name of the actual person who instructed the arson attack is similar to mine."
"The person in the video does not even look like me, I'm a bit bald but not as bad as that," he quipped.
"It is clear that the guy ( in white ) wanted to raise racial tension and I hope the police will identify the real culprit soon," he added.
Stressing that the mistaken identity has caused him much inconvenience, Shuhaimi said even yesterday, he received five text messages in reference to the attacks, with some of them coming from editors.
However, he declined to disclose the name of the editor.
