Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein’s warning that there are forces bent on derailing the government’s 1Malaysia concept has missed the mark, according to DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang.
Hishamuddin was referring to the spate of attacks on places of worship but failed to realise that the enemies of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was closer to home- in the very sanctum of his premiership, he said.
Lim added that MIC leaders, from its President S.Samy Vellu down, are baying for Nasir’s blood and even demanding that he should be detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) when commenting on Nasir statement made during a seminar in Malacca on Tuesday entitled ‘Rapat 1Malaysia’.
“This is the last thing that should be done, for it will only make Nasir a martyr. Furthermore, detention-without-trial is iniquitous, unjust and undemocratic,” he said.
“It is a legislation that I will not wish on my worst opponents,” he added.
Lim - who is also the Ipoh Timor MP - said the strongest and most severe action should be taken against Nasir for labelling Indians and Chinese ‘pendatang’ (‘immigrants’), saying that ‘Indians came to Malaysia as beggars and Chinese, especially the women, came to sell their bodies (jual tubuh)’, and threatening to revoke the citizenship of Indians who are vocal about the subject cap for the SPM examination.
“It is more important to flush out all the closet Nasir Safars holding influential positions in Najib’s government, as such rabid and racist attitudes are just not acceptable or tolerable under the 1Malaysia slogan,” he added.
He said the resignation of Nasir is inadequate in light of the offence caused.
Police are investigating Nasir under the Sedition Act over alleged racist remarks made during a seminar, according to federal CID director Mohd Bakri Zini who added that the investigations were based on 12 police reports lodged at various locations throughout the country.
