The decision of the MCA Integrity Task Force (Mitf) to boycott party functions and events will only be reviewed when the party leadership comes up with a time-table on the next presidential election.

Party vice-president Liow Tiong Lai, who heads the task force, said the boycott, which included the upcoming MCA Chinese New Year Open House, would serve as a message to the party leadership that the situation was serious and warranted immediate action.

"Actually, we can resolve this (issue) fast if we have a time-table ready for the presidential election.

"This shows our urgency to resolve this crisis," he told reporters after visiting the Sungai Buloh National Leprosy Control Centre near Kuala Lumpur today.

Last Tuesday, Liow announced that Mitf members would boycott all functions and activities organised by the current leadership led by party president Ong Tee Keat until a fresh party election was held.

The 13-member task force, which includes Youth chief Wee Ka Siong and Wanita chief Chew Mei Fun, was set up last year, following a power tussle in the MCA.

The Mitf's bid for a fresh party election hit a snag when only 13 central committee members agreed to quit, falling short of the two-thirds required by the party constitution for a fresh contest.
