The Education Ministry plans to set up a consultative council on education matters at the parliamentary constituency level to further help raise the quality of education in the country, said deputy education minister.

Mohd Puad Zarkashi said the council was expected to be made up of representatives from the district education department, Parent-Teacher Associations, non-governmental organisations, police and the National Anti-Drug Agency.

"The framework of the proposal is ready, but has yet to get the go ahead from the education minister because it is still at the proposal stage.

"As such, I cannot pre-empt as to when it will be implemented," he told a meeting with representatives of PTAs from schools in the Kubang Pasu district, in Jitra today.

He added that having the council, which would be chaired by the respective member of parliament, would help address education issues at the parliamentary constituency level in a "lean" manner.

On another matter, Puad said the ministry was taking steps to rectify an error found in the text book for Islamic religious studies used in Form Four.
