The Kelantan government is willing to reconsider the ban on women, or qariah , from Quran reading competitions, Menteri Besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said.

He said the ban imposed soon after PAS took over the Kelantan state government in 1990 could be reconsidered.

"It can be done. Presently, we only allow girls under 12 in nasyid groups.

"Just like the ban on women from visiting graves as it can lead to mingling between men and women.

"Nowadays, it is a common thing," he said when launching Sahabat Siber Sayang Kelantan (Saing) on Facebook in Kota Bharu today.
