A father of four has been living in fear over the past two weeks after being allegedly harassed by thugs and the police.

The 53-year-old businessman, who lives in Cheras, believes that the harassment is related to his colossal debt, amounting to RM650,000 which is now being decided by the courts.

Relating Heng Som Ching's ordeal, his son Seng Tyng told Malaysiakini that the family has lost confidence in the police force.

NONE "We are afraid that they would break into our home and set us up," he said when met at their lawyer's office. His parents were also present.

Accusing the police of being in cohorts with the thugs, Seng Tyng said they have also been threatened with arrest.

On Jan 29, Seng Tyng said his father, who runs an air-freshener business, was approached by a rubber company owner over the money and he was accompanied by another individual, whom Heng believes is a thug.

The manner in which Som Ching was 'harassed' by the duo led him to lodge a police report at the Jalan Cheras 9th Mile police station.

Driveway blocked

On Feb 8, Seng Tyng said he could not go to work because an old Ford car and police patrol car were used to block his driveway.

Following this, a man, dressed in plainclothes, alighted from the Ford and identified himself as a policeman. He then told Seng Tyng to contact one Inspector Mohd Azrul from the Kajang district police headquarters CID department.

At this juncture, Seng Tyng called his lawyer, who spoke to the policeman. During the conversation, the lawyer asked if the police had search or arrest warrants.

When the lawyer continued to probe, the policeman said: "I don’t take instructions from you."

NONE Meanwhile, Kajang district police chief Mohd Sakaruddin Che Mood ( left ) denied the allegation of harassment.

He confirmed that there were two inspectors by the name of Mohd Azrul  with the Kajang CID department.

"I believe one of them had instructed the detectives to investigate," he said when asked to comment on the Feb 8 incident.

"Why are they afraid of the police?" he questioned.
