Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir said the opposition should not impose various conditions and demands if it is sincere about cooperating with the state government.

He also said that the issue should not have been raised by the opposition because it was the policy of the government to always cooperate with everyone and help the rakyat without discrimination against anyone.

"There's no need to place conditions and pressure. We must be sincere in helping the people because our target and main objective is to help the rakyat," he told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting in Kuala Lumpur today.

Zambry is here to accompany the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah, to the 220th meeting of the Conference of Rulers at Istana Negara since yesterday.

The Menteri Besar said this when asked to comment on several requests made by the opposition before they were willing to cooperate with the state government.

Yesterday, former Perak menteri besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said the PAS, DAP and PKR coalition in Perak wanted the state government led by Zambry to fulfill several of their demands including allowing them to use the community hall, attend the State Action Committee and District Action Committee meetings as well as to give financial allocation to the opposition state assemblymen.

Mohammad Nizar said the opposition coalition was prepared to give their cooperation to the BN state government if the conditions that they set were fulfilled.

Zambry did not rule out the possibility that the requests were part of the opposition tactics to drag the state government into a new problem and turn it into a political issue if the government were to reject the request.

He also questioned the sincerity of the opposition in making the demands and that the state government would be wary in giving financial aid as it feared the fund would be utilised for political gains instead of assisting the people.

Supporters told to remain calm

In a related development, Perak Pakatan Rakyat today advised all its supporters to remain calm and accept yesterday's decision of the Federal Court on the rightful menteri besar as a due process of law which had to be respected.

Perak Pakatan secretariat chairman Khalil Idham Lim said in a statement that all the 28 state assemblymen had resolved to be an effective opposition in the Perak state assembly, and as such all supporters were advised to refrain from acting contrary to the law.

"This decision does not mean that we are accepting defeat but it is on the principle of respecting the court's decision," he said.

Khalil, who is the PAS assemblyman for Titi Serong, said all Pakatan supporters should plan measures to ensure that Pakatan remained in the hearts of the people and help out with the programmes of the service centres of Pakatan assemblymen in the state.

The Federal Court yesterday declared that the appointment of Zambry as the menteri besar by the Sultan of Perak was valid and dismissed the appeal of Mohammad Nizar.
