Najib Abdul Razak today cautioned the BN against being side-tracked by developments in the opposition pact and said the ruling coalition must show it can provide the best service to the people.

The prime minister said the BN must portray itself as a responsible and sensitive party which could fulfill all the pledges made to the people, both in the states and at the federal level.

"We cannot control whatever happens in the opposition parties but we can control ourselves.

"So, let us become a party seen as the best, which is respected and which the people are comfortable with and want ... that is what we should focus on," he said.

Najib, who is also the BN chairman, spoke to reporters after chairing the 10th meeting of the National SME Development Council (NSDC), in Putrajaya.

Najib was asked to comment on the latest developments in PKR which saw the resignation today from the party of its Bayan Baru MP Zahrain Mohd Hashim.

The prime minister said it was something expected following the upheaval in the opposition pact.

"It also shows that the opposition coalition has been shaky from the beginning and it looks like it will be difficult for them to maintain it.

"I believe many questions will arise as to their capability as a group, their ability to continue to convince the people that they are a better alternative than the BN," he said.
