The Penang government has directed that premises occupied by the Permatang Berangan state assemblyman service centre be vacated on Feb 23.

The assemblyman (Adun) Shabudin Yahaya said this proved that the state government was insensitive to the people's needs.

He said the Adun office situated next to Dewan Muhammad Haji Muhd Taib in Tasek Gelugor was not an Umno office.

The directive was made via a letter from the Seberang Perai Utara Land and District Office last month.

The office began operating there with permission of Seberang Perai Utara Land and District Office since 2004.

Shabudin said it was built by BN on federal land but since the land status was unclear, it was placed under the state government.

"Before we came in, the building was in a poor state and left abandoned without water and electricity. It was then repaired and now host many activities for the community."

He accepted the decision to vacate and hoped the state government would maintain the building in the interest of the local community.
