Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin said Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah should weigh his position in the party following his using the opposition platform to state his stand on the oil royalty issue.

He said Umno viewed the matter seriously and the Gua Musang division chief should understand that the platform he was using was not a government or Umno platform but one that was sponsored by PAS.

"Hence, this should not happen and we have been following his statements and I've myself observed that some of his statements were against the government and party's principles," he said after presenting awards to top achievers in the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examinations in Besut today.

NONE Muhyiddin was asked to comment on Razaleigh's action of stating his stand on the oil royalty issue via the opposition platform on Jan 28 at the Sultan Mohamed IV Stadium in Kota Baharu, Kelantan.

He said the former finance minister who was considered a veteran and experienced leader, should know better where he should stand.

"It's not for me to teach him as he is more senior than I am and he should therefore know better.

"I hope he will look again at his position as he is seen to be doing something in conflicting with the party's policy and principles. So, I leave it to Ku Li's wisdom, " said the deputy prime minister.

PAS keeps changing stand

On the proposed PAS-Umno cooperation by the opposition party, Muhyiddin said the request did not appear to have come from the PAS grassroots but only from one or two individuals in the party.

"The prime minister has said that we (Umno) are not sure, as they (PAS) are always changing like the seasons. It was only a suggestion from Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz (Nik Mat), unless if the decision to cooperate with Umno had come from the Syura (Consultative) Council. Only then, will we take it seriously.

"Nothing will happen if they keep changing their stand. We've seen from past experience where they would talk about cooperation but only to change their mind after that each time."

Muhyiddin said Umno could not depend on the suggestion of one or two persons, but it should come from the whole party (PAS) instead.

"So far, we've only been hearing about it (suggestion) and a response is not fitting yet," he added.
