A KTMB goods train with 28 coaches laden with rubber-based commodities derailed off the tracks today at KM58.75, near Kampung Guar Stesyen, about 8km from Gurun, Kedah, at 4.48pm.

     

The incident disrupted the Langkawi-Hatyai express service from Gemas, Johor and the Hatyai-Langkawi express service from Padang Besar, according to a Bernama report.

 

KTMB Corporate Communication acting senior manager Mohd Fadzil Ismail said the train came off the tracks while on its way to Butterworth, Penang, from Padang Besar, Perlis.

There were no reports of casualties.

Investigation are in progress to determine the cause of the incident, said Mohd Fadzil when contacted by Bernama today.

    

Mohd Fadzil also said that passengers of the Langkawi-Hatyai Express from Gemas can get off the train at the Ipoh station, from which they will be ferried by bus to Alor Setar to resume their journey.

    

Those taking the Hatyai-Langkawi Express from Padang Besar can disembark at Alor Setar, from which they will be transferred by bus to Ipoh before continuing their journey, he added.

 

Work is in progress to lift the coaches, and is expected to be completed late tonight.
