Selangor police said today seven reports have been made alleging abuse of power by Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim over the quit rent payment for land owned by Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan (YBK) Selangor.

Selangor police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said two of the reports were being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code pertaining to defamation.

 

The police reports have come in the wake of a row between the Selangor government and the foundation following the latter's application to develop its 526-hectare land in Serendah for a new campus of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) was rejected by the state government.

The state government found that YBK had not paid quit rent on the land for 13 years, amounting to RM5.6 million.

The Selangor government also insisted that it be given the chairmanship of YBK and a state executive councillor be made a trustee to ensure that government funds given to YBK were managed properly.

Earlier this month, Yayasan Melaka settled the quit rent for YBK but the Selangor government rejected the payment, saying that quit rent could only be paid by the landowners as per Section 98 of the National Land Code.
