The long Chinese New Year break has brought luck to producers of keropok losong, with some raking in up to RM5,000 a day.

Keropok Losong Producers Association chairman Suhaimi Ali said sales had soared since last Sunday and traders tried their best to attend to the numerous customers.

"When the cholera epidemic hit three months ago, it was hard for us to earn even RM1,000 a day.

"However, customers came by the droves to our stalls during the Chinese New Year holidays," he told Bernama in Kuala Terengganu today.

Suhaimi, who owns the 'Warisan Losong' keropok stall, said it was estimated that visitors, especially those from out of Terengganu, spent over RM100 on keropok for themselves and as gifts for relatives and friends.

He said he hired 12 workers and used 500kg of fresh fish to cater to demands during the holiday season.

"I open my stall for business from between 9.30am and 9pm, and we get a never-ending flow of customers," he said.

A survey by Bernama found that other areas selling 'keropok lekor', such as Seberang Takir, Batu Rakit and Pulau Kerengga, were also busy with visitors yesterday evening.
