A former political secretary who was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Thursday has been released on a RM50,000 bail.

In a press release, the MACC said the political secretary was remanded from Feb 12 and was released on bail with one surety after his statement was taken.

While the anti-corruption body did not name the individual concerned, he is likely to be Hasbie Satar, the former political secretary to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nor Mohamed Yakcop.

Hasbie resigned from his post three days after his arrest.

According to MACC, the anti-corruption commission has also impounded a car and a certain amount of cash.

It was reported that MACC raided at an apartment in Teluk Air Tawar, Butterworth last week and found RM2 million in bundles of RM5, RM10, RM50 and RM100.

MACC said that it picked up the man for investigation on Feb 11 under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Act 2001.

Hasbie had been under MACC investigation for amassing millions of ringgit in properties including at least four luxury cars and four houses in the Klang Valley.

Two months ago, MACC officials had obtained an order to seize several of the former aide's properties and that his bank accounts be frozen.

Hasbie, a Sarawakian, was appointed political secretary in 2008 while Nor Mohamed was finance minister II.
