In these days of gloom and doom, Pakatan Rakyat is set to enjoy a mega celebration of their shattering triumph two years ago over an ageing Barisan Nasional.

The big do which is expected to draw 10,000 supporters will be held on Sunday night at the Kelab Sultan Sulaiman, Kampung Baru where they celebrated their win in 2008.

NONE Then, 20,000 euphoric rakyat turned out, in defiance of the authorities' warning, to welcome Anwar Ibrahim’s return to politics.

There was a lot to celebrate then, a historic win over, taking over five major states, denying the BN its traditional 2/3  parliamentary majority, Anwar 's return to politics and the success of the PR coalition.

Talks of forming an opposition government, shadow cabinets, and ketuanan rakyat further added to the rakyat 's excitement.

However, two years later the emotional highs appeared to have waned.

With the Anwar sodomy II trial on, rifts within the Pakatan, numerous MP defecting and the loss of Perak, the public might harbour different feelings about the do.

The crowd this year would expect the Pakatan leadership to address these issues and reassure them that their enthusiasm for the ketuanan rakyat crusade remains unabated.

Major task for leadership

There will be a lot of convincing for them to do as to the strength of their coalition, their future plans and strategy to safeguard the people’s interest with the looming possibility of a  petrol price rise and GST implementation.

The top leadership turning up in full force, is expected to attract an exuberant attendance but whether the people’s confidence will be restored remains to be seen.

Earlier the same day, the Selangor Pakatan will be holding a one-day convention at Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, Shah Alam.
