Wanita chief Chew Mei Fun said she is considering taking disciplinary action against the wing's secretary-general Heng Seai Kie and national organising secretary Tan Cheng Liang for going ahead with its annual general meeting (AGM) today.

women leader forum scah 240408 chew mei fun Chew ( right ) said although she received many calls from Wanita members to take action against the duo, she would only decide on the matter after discussing it with other Wanita leaders as soon as possible.

"A meeting of Wanita's CC (central committee) will probably be convened before the party's election (March 28) to deliberate on the action to be taken against Heng and Tan," she told a news conference at a restaurant near Wisma MCA while the AGM was proceeding.

Yesterday, Chew, after chairing an emergency meeting of the wing, had announced that the AGM would be postponed following the resignation of 21 CC members of MCA to pave way for fresh party polls.

The new polls will be held on March 28.

350 delegates defy Chew

Despite the order given by Chew, Heng and Tan had led 350 delegates, exceeding the minimum requirement of 200 delegates under the party's constitution, to proceed with the meeting at Dewan San Choon here.

However, Chew was adamant that the AGM was invalid as it had defied the decision made by the CC yesterday to postpone it until a later date.

She also stressed that the wing had the right as vested by Wanita MCA's by-laws to regulate its own affairs.

The MCA Youth had also postponed its AGM today and an attempt to convene it failed duo to a lack of quorom.
