Apex court: Anwar's sacking lawful

Malaysian Overseas: ‘Senior federal counsel Kamaluddin Md Said, in defending the government's stand, had said the Parliament Hansard shows that Mahathir had informed Parliament that the Agong had not objected to the dismissal.'

But what about if Mahathir did not tell the truth about informing Agong of the dismissal? Can we simply take his words, even though they were uttered in Parliament?

Ng Kim Eng: The irony of this court verdict is that the Yang Di Pertuan Agong does not have the power to the consent or reject the dismissal of Anwar Ibrahim, but the Sultan of Perak has the unilateral power to dismiss a menteri besar (Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin) without referring to the executive and legislature body of the Perak state government.

Black Mamba: Am I missing something here? The MB was sacked by the Sultan. Now it says the Agong can't meddle in the sacking of the DPM? What kind of law are we creating in Malaysia?

Arbeena: The then-Agong Tuanku Jaafar was informed. That's already enough according to ex-premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad to sack his deputy Anwar Ibrahim. He was given the power to appoint and sack his ministers. Unless that power is removed, there is no point for anyone to challenge Mahathir.

Md Imraz Muhd Ikhbal: The Kuala Lumpur High Court was correct all along in dismissing Anwar's suit. They even saved public funds by denying a full trial. The Appeal's Court did the right thing in dismissing Anwar's appeal. And now, The Federal Court has confirmed that our courts are not only very fair but ever so consistent.

Very, very fair, that is, in serving the political agenda of their political masters, and ever so consistent in delivering perverted judicial rulings that defy every sense of logic and rule of law every time it comes to the opposition or other force of dissent that threatens the continued rule of BN.

So whoever said that our judges are devoid of integrity and competence had better retract their nonsensical assertions immediately, lest they too will be "consistently" prosecuted and "fairly" judged by our esteemed courts.

Akmal Ariffin: Don't the judges or the police realise that the possibility of Pakatan ruling the country is always there? If Pakatan wins, imagine the overhaul that we will be going through. Maybe it is going be like purges after purges.

Judges who are conscious of their evil ways are worse than the criminals they send to jail. Maybe they don't read Malaysiakini .

Gem: Sacking somebody is one thing. Whether there is proper and fair reason in the sacking is another.

Flak over 'RM100 for elderly' scheme in Penang

Kgen: If the money was given just before an election (BN-style), then it may be construed as corruption. But there is no election in sight, and this programme is just to help senior citizens cope with the rising costs of living.

Be careful, Gerakan. The public knows the difference between a constructive opposition and a mischief-causing opposition. With the abysmal caliber of Gerakan leaders, no wonder ex-Gerakan head Lim Keng Yaik said Gerakan has lost Penang for good.

Yun: Although I doubt the senior citizens knew what was happening, I think Gerakan has a point. Pakatan Rakyat should be careful about announcing monetary handouts during rallies, dinners and talks.

They already have the people of Penang behind them, anyway, so it pays to be more cautious. If the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission does decide to investigate Lim Guan Eng, though, the joke will be on the MACC itself.

Teh: It is no wonder that Gerakan will never retake Penang from Pakatan. Just look at the calibre of their leaders. They speak nothing else but nonsense. They cannot even differentiate between a social programme for the old and aged and corruption.

Why doesn't Penang Gerakan Youth chief Oh Tong Keong make a formal police report on this? That should endear him to the old and needy in Penang.

Louis: Please be more well-informed. The Australian government gave AU$24,000 for first-time home buyers to buy new houses and to instal insulation for their houses. Would you consider that as corruption? The Aussies do not consider it to be so.

Here the state government is giving only RM100 to oldies. Why must you sabotage the scheme that can really benefit the needy? You are simply heartless. If at all you are sincere, you should have reported the many scandals committed under the leadership of Koh Tsu Koon.

Jeff Ooi to Ahmad Husni: Apologise for 'racist remark'

Tired: On one hand, Pakatan has been telling the world that Malaysian police are unfair, tools of the government, Umno ‘machais' who have no other work to do but harass Pakatan leaders like Lim Guan Eng, that they have lost confidence in the force, and so on.

Yet, they want to lodge a report and police to investigate the Finance Minister II Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah? Where's the logic in that? Why waste time lodging reports if Pakatan feels the result will only be ‘no further action'? Sigh.

AMT: PM Najib Abdul Razak, as long as you have racist goons like this, you will never win the votes of the Chinese and Indians. You can practically camp on Petaling Street and take evening walks in Batu Caves, you will fail as long as these goons go around giving these racist and instigating statements.

If only a DAP leader had said the same words, it would be headlines in Utusan Malaysia with the inspector-general of police and attorney-general swinging into action.
