The Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court fixed April 13 for mention for the three individuals accused in the Metro Tabernacle Church arson case.

Judge Komathy Suppiah made the decision today following an application by deputy public prosecutor Lee King Fatt on the grounds that the medical reports for the three accused were not ready.

metro tabernacle church arson mention 120310 The trio - brothers Raja Muhammad Faizal Raja Ibrahim, 24,and Raja Muhammad Idzham Raja Ibrahim, 22, and 23-year-old Azuwan Shah Ahmad - were hospitalised for burns after the church was razed on Jan 8.

Mention was originally fixed for today. 

They were nabbed at the hospital and charged on Jan 29. They were unrepresented when their plea was recorded.

The brothers were today represented by Zambi Ibrahim while Azuwan was represented by Rosal Azimam Ahmad.

All three accused appeared to be in better condition compared to their last appearance in court more than a month ago when they displayed obvious burn wounds.

Up to 20 years in jail

The three were hospitalised for severe burns after the ground floor of the Metro Tabernacle Church was razed on Jan 8, leading to their subsequent arrest.

Raja Muhammas Faizal suffered the worst injuries,with burns to his neck and front portion of his body, causing kidney damage.

He had appeared in court in hospital clothes and a urine bag when the charges were brought against the three on Jan 29 without representation.

They are being charged under Section 436 of the Penal Code, with ‘mischief by fire or an explosive substance with intent to cause damage.'

Under the section, the offence carries a maximum prison term of 20 years and a fine if found guilty.

They are also being charged under Section 34 of the same code with colluding to cause mischief.

After the fixture, they slipped out under the nose of photographers who had been unaware of their presence.

However, Raja Muhammad Idzham in a black hooded jacket gave them away.
