Bayan Baru Independent MP Zahrain Hashim will be sending a legal letter to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng demanding an apology for alleged defamation.

He has given Lim seven days to explain his "innuendos and accusations" against him or else he would proceed to sue the DAP secretary-general.

Zahrain told reporters at a press conference in the Parliament that his lawyers will be serving Lim a notice of demand at his office in Penang tomorrow.

Lim had stated that Zahrain quit PKR on Feb 12 after failing to get approval for a RM40 million tender for a golf resort project.

Zairain has cited his disappointment with the Penang state government's "dictatorial" leadership under Lim as his key reason for quitting.

Peeved over Lim's allegations and stressed that he and his family was falsely linked to a RM2 company that bid for the project in Penang's Bukit Jambul Golf & Country Club, Zahrain said he was still await Lim's explanation.

Moreover, Zahrain said he would be taking Machang PKR MP Saifuddin Nasution to task for claiming that the former Penang PKR chief owed RM1.8 million and used the golf project to repay the debt.

"I have asked my lawyers to look into this and if there is a case, I will bring it to court... this is slander," said Zahrain.

"I want to put a stop all these slanderous accusations. The Agong has advised MPs to stop such politics and I back that call," he said.

Zahrain also vowed to take others who slander him to court.

"If I don’t (take it to court), then they will spin it and say I am lying. Whoever opens their mouth, I will take legal action. Don’t simply throw slander," he said.

He added that his former compatriots were "playing a dirty game" but warned that there is a limit to such actions.
