An Umno MP today alleged in Parliament today that DAP's alternative budget was bias since there was no allocations to improve the condition of Malays or the status of Islam.

Kota Belud MP Abdul Rahman Dahlan sparked a ruckus when he alleged that DAP's alternative budget had no allocations to improve the condition of Malays or the status of Islam since it was silent about the Malay community and the country’s official religion.

"I saw the concern among my fellow colleagues with regard to the lack of provisions that were not included in the budget. They do not understand the concern of the Malays and b  umiputera.

"There is not a single provision in the budget for religious schools (Islam) or development of the Malay community... but they have promised to set up 160 Chinese schools. Not a single ringgit for the Malays," he said during the debate on a motion of thanks for the royal address by Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin.

Abdul Rahman also questioned DAP's action to prepare the alternative budget without consultation from PAS or PKR.

Proposal to slash civil service slammed

    

The Kota Belud MPs allegations riled Pakatan Rakyat lawmakers, especially from PAS and PKR, who stood up to clarify the accusations.

Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud (PAS-Kota Raja) said under House Regulations 36(12) Abdul Rahman's allegations were false and unfair as there was no room for the opposition to rectify the facts.

Deputy speaker Ronald Kiandee subsequently managed to restore order to the House.

Abdul Rahman also alleged that apart from not including any provisions for Malays and Islam, the alternative budget was also aimed at abolishing Rela and reducing the civil service, where the majority of them are Malays and bumiputera.

"Due to the economic meltdown, the DAP in the document has suggested to reduce the size of the civil service and abolish Rela. These are two areas monopolised by bumiputera, who need assistance. Why must they reduce the civil service... the people should know that this is Pakatan Rakyat's weakness," he said.
