The Magistrate's Court in Kota Bharu has extended to tomorrow the remand of a private secretary of the Kelantan sultan to facilitate a police investigation.

The extension of the remand was granted by magistrate Noor Haslinda Che Seman at 11.15am today.

The private secretary and his lawyers, Gobind Singh Deo and Mohd Haaziq Pillay, were present in court.

Gobind Singh told reporters the court allowed his client to receive treatment in hospital for hypertension and a back problem.

He asked the police to expedite their investigation and determine whether to prosecute his client or release him.

Police arrested the private secretary, who is a former state secretary of Kelantan, at his house on Thursday apparently over an announcement alleging the removal of Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra Sultan Ismail Petra as the regent of Kelantan.

Second acting regent

Tengku Abdul Aziz Hamzah:

He was chairperson of the Council of Royal Succession, where it was declared on March 25 that he was replacing Tengku Muhammad Faris as acting regent. Abdul Aziz is elder brother of Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.

But his appointment was said to be illegal as it allegedly did not obtain the consent of the council. Tengku Muhammad Faris remains the regent.

Tengku Muhammad Faris sacked Tengku Abdul Aziz on March 26 from chairing the council, and replaced him with the Tengku Abdul Halim Al-Haj, who is said to be a grand-uncle to Faris.

Tengku Razaleigh is Raja perempuan Tengku Anis' uncle.
