Parti Rakyat Malaysia's first leafleting exercise under its 'Back to the People' campaign on Merdeka Day was a success.

PRM members in Shah Alam, Kota Baru, Seremban and Malacca managed to distribute its leaflets to the public with little trouble from the authorities, the party said in a statement today.

In Kuala Lumpur, PRM members took part in the Merdeka Day celebrations by giving out leaflets to those who were at Dataran Merdeka to watch the parade.

In Seremban, PRM members said there was heavy Special Branch presence at the Pasar Besar Seremban where they were carrying out their leafleting activities, but no arrests were made. Members of opposition political parties have been arrested before for distributing flyers and their printed materials confiscated by the authorities.

Economic growth

In the leaflet, PRM pointed out that 45 years after Independence, many segments of the population still do not enjoy the benefits of the country's economic growth especially in the last two decades.

The party urged the Barisan Nasional government to make Malaysians the focus of its development policies.

This leafleting exercise is the first in a series of activities planned for PRM's 'Back to the People' campaign.
