The first MCA central committee meeting is expected to be held on April 7 with new president Chua Soi Lek at the helm.

The meeting will see the thrashing out of appointments for top party posts including the new secretary-general, national organising secretary as well as the state liaison chairmen.

NONE While current secretary-general Wong Foon Meng ( right ) has expressed his wish to relinquish his post now that new party leadership has taken over, the grapevine is already abuzz with his replacement.

Housing and Local Government minister Kong Cho Ha, a hardcore Chua supporter, is tipped to bag the post despite his loss in his bid for deputy presidency in the party polls on Sunday.

His recent appointment as the election machinery chief for MCA  for the upcoming Hulu Selangor by-election also seems to cement his position as favourite.

Chew's fate to be known on April 8

Wanita MCA’s own CC meeting is also expected to be held on the next day on April 8.

I NONE t is understood that they will discuss Wanita chief Chew Mei Fun’s ( left ) fate in the party after she had previously made harsh statements about Chua’s sex scandal.

She had vehemently criticised Chua’s moral capacity as leader after his DVD scandal broke out late 2007, even to say she would step down if he were to become party president.

However, it is understood that the women’s wing were eager to retain the status quo, and that the meeting would be to discuss a way for her to retract the statement gracefully.

“Chew is a senior leader. We will try to help her,” said a party insider who refused to be named.

Chua had also said yesterday that he bore no grudge against Chew for her remarks and also urged her to reconsider her “resignation”.
