The MIC is confident the BN will recapture the Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat in the by-election on April 25, MIC vice-president Dr S Subramaniam said today.

NONE He said a majority of the estimated 12,000 Indian voters in the constituency now backed the BN after having switched allegiance in the general election in 2008.

MIC deputy president G Palanivel lost by 198 votes to Zainal Abidin Ahmad of PKR in 2008.

The by-election is necessitated by the death of Dr Zainal Abidin on March 25.

Speaking to reporters after opening the academy of the Malaysia Hindu Archagar Sangam in Ipoh, he said the Indians in the constituency were traditionally strong supporters of the BN.

On the academy, Dr Subramaniam said it would reduce the need to bring in priests from India to serve in Hindu temples in the country.
