The Pentagon said Thursday it has notified Congress of a possible sale to Malaysia of 18 F/A-18F fighters as part of a deal that could be worth nearly US$1.5 billion (RM5.7 billion).

The aircraft's larger range and endurance "will increase Malaysia's tactical aviation capabilities," the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in announcing the proposed sale.

Besides the aircraft, the sale would include aircraft engines, radar systems, countermeasure sets and guided missile launchers.
