PKR leaders Azmin Ali and Saifuddin Nasution have trashed S Nallakarupan’s claims that Anwar Ibrahim will seek independence for Sarawak if the party forms the next state government.

nallakarupan 220307 Malay-language daily Utusan Malaysia today quoted Nallakarupan (left) - a former PKR member - as saying that an independent Sarawak would fulfill Anwar’s dream of eventually becoming premier, with wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the ‘First Lady’.

However, Azmin, the PKR vice-president, said Nallakarupan is 'crazy'.

“I do not want to respond to the ‘crazy’. There is no point in taking legal action against him or Utusan Malaysia ,” he said in the Parliament lobby, when asked to comment.

saifuddin nasution Saifuddin (left) , PKR secretary-general, concurred, saying that it is the “most ridiculous statement” that Nallakarupan has ever made.

“PKR is making preparations for the Sarawak election but we will not seek independence when we win,” he explained.

Saifuddin said Nallakarupan does not know what he is talking about and that he does not understand Malaysian history.

“His statement is stupid and ridiculous,” he added.

Nallakarupan, once Anwar's close friend and tennis partner, had also claimed that Anwar would appoint his ‘golden boy’ Azmin as deputy premier when he (Anwar) became PM.

''I believe that he will do this and PKR will be the '3A' party - Anwar, Azizah and Azmin,'' he reportedly said.

After leaving PKR, Nallakarupan formed the Malaysian United Indians Party in 2007.
